LVGEA Receives Two Excellence Awards from IEDC

LVGEA recognized for 2017 #Amazon2Vegas social media campaign and HQ2Vegas community video

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA) received two Silver Excellence in Economic Development Awards this year during a ceremony at the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Annual Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Atlanta, Georgia.

“This year our judges reviewed some extraordinary projects that advanced both communities and businesses. We congratulate all the award winners, and thank everyone who nominated their projects for sharing their success with fellow IEDC members. What we learn from each other helps us to grow and advance as a profession. We look forward to even greater participation from economic developers across the globe in the 2019 awards program.” -Craig Richard, CEcD, FM, President and CEO, Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation located in Tampa, Florida, and 2018 IEDC Board Chair.

The LVGEA was recognized for its social media and video promotion work during the bid for Amazon’s second headquarters in 2017. Below are the awards received:

#Amazon2Vegas Social Media Campaign, a project in the category of New Media

The #Amazon2Vegas social media campaign was a collaborative effort led by the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance to highlight Las Vegas’ proposal for Amazon HQ2 and to showcase why we believed it to be the premiere location for project. On Oct. 20, 2017, community and business leaders in the greater Las Vegas area came together for a one-day social media blitz to answer: “Why Vegas?” The LVGEA is a public-private partnership organization that serves as the designated regional development authority for Southern Nevada.

HQ2Vegas Community Video, a project in the category of Video/Multimedia Promotion

On Oct. 20, 2017, Las Vegas released its video submission as part of the proposal for Amazon HQ2. Called “HQ2Vegas,” the video was produced on behalf of the region’s Amazon working group–a broad-based coalition of economic development agencies from the LVGEA, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, the City of Las Vegas, City of Henderson, City of North Las Vegas and Clark County. With the help of community partners, the video was created to showcase the region’s assets and was a part of an #Amazon2Vegas social media campaign launched to promote and raise the profile of Las Vegas.
