On Thursday, Sept. 20, the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance’s (LVGEA) 2018 Annual Awards dinner will take place at the Mariposa Ballroom of the Aria Resort & Casino. The event will reflect on the year’s accomplishments and celebrate LVGEA’s core values–innovation, leadership, partnership and jobs–by recognizing some of the companies and individuals helping to further community and economic development in Southern Nevada.
The organization recently announced the honoree of its Leadership Award: Steve Hill.
Nominated by LVGEA investors and selected by our Board of Directors, this award recognizes a business or community leader whose vision, influence and inclusiveness have positively impacted the economy of Southern Nevada.
Steve is the incoming CEO and president of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Previous to this position, however, he played an important role in economic development for Nevada as the director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. In 2011, Steve was appointed by Governor Sandoval and has shown tremendous leadership in furthering the growth and impact of the statewide economy through business retention and expansion. Under his leadership, GOED created “Moving Nevada Forward”, a plan for diversifying the state’s economy that reflected his vision for Nevada’s future. Steve has played an influential part in bringing businesses like Tesla, Faraday Future, Barclaycard, Apple and Hyperloop to the state. These jobs have brought and are projected to continue creating thousands of jobs and bolster the state’s economy. Furthermore, Steve led GOED in turning new technology-based industries into economic development opportunities such as unmanned aerial and autonomous vehicles, water technologies, and personalized medicine.
The Annual Awards Dinner will also bring together some of the businesses that are expanding in the region and helping to create jobs and diversify our economic tax base.
