CCSD Reorg. Endorsed by Council of Chambers

LAS VEGAS — During a meeting of the Council of Chambers on Wednesday, Dec. 7, Southern Nevada’s top business groups approved a resolution in support the Clark County School District (CCSD) reorganization process and the role of the Community Implementation Council to implement the reorganization framework as outlined in Assembly Bill 394 (AB394).

The vote passed unanimously with the following organizations present:

Asian Chamber of Commerce
Boulder City Chamber of Commerce
Henderson Chamber of Commerce
Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance
Latin Chamber of Commerce
Mesquite Chamber of Commerce
Urban Chamber of Commerce

“It is important to recognize the inextricable link between economic development and education,” said Jonas Peterson, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA). “In order to improve the quality of workforce and overall business environment of Southern Nevada, it is necessary for us to continue supporting education in a way that leads to better outcomes for students.”

On Dec. 1, the LVGEA’s Board of Directors unanimously passed a resolution in support of the CCSD reorganization and the Community Implementation Council.

“If we are going to succeed, the entire community needs to step up,” said Peter Guzman, President of the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce. “We will see better results if we come together to support education and its role in impacting the business community.”

“Implementation of the law, AB394, should be of the utmost importance,” said Jill Lagan, CEO of the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce. “The education of our future employees, business owners and community leaders is key to the economic strength of Southern Nevada.”

“The reorganization of CCSD will benefit rural schools like those in Mesquite,” said Brenda Snell, Director of Chamber Administration for the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce. “This restructuring will provide more local control and accountability. Having decisions about education made closer to home will ultimately result in increased economic development, business growth and general quality of life in Mesquite.”
