Tom R. Skancke
President & CEO
After 25 years owning his own business, Tom Skancke was recruited to take the helm as Chief Executive Officer and President of the regional development authority for Southern Nevada, now known as the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance.
In his new role, Tom has refocused Southern Nevada’s economic development initiatives and expanded the Economic Alliance’s regional and global outreach. Las Vegas is already a global tourism destination; Tom and his team are helping to make Las Vegas a global business destination.
Prior to joining the organization, Tom served as President and CEO of The Skancke Company. He has been the lead advisor on hundreds of transportation infrastructure projects, and is widely recognized as one of the top transportation strategists in the United States. In 2005, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) appointed Tom to the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission, and co-authored a landmark document that made recommendations to Congress on policy, funding, and infrastructure for the next 50 years. He also played a key role in the past three surface transportation reauthorization bills.
In addition to his transportation work, Tom helped to deregulate the telecommunications industry, worked on a regional flood control project throughout the west, and advocated for funding for K-12 and Higher Education. Additionally, he has worked on several growth and development issues throughout the United States. Tom’s comments have appeared on CNN’s The Situation Room, Fox News Sunday, and in the Washington-based policy publication The Hill. He is a highly sought-after public speaker, and has presented to dozens of professional groups, chambers of commerce, state commissions and conferences, and he has testified before several U.S. Senate and House Committees.
Tom recognizes that economic activity depends on interactions, and interactions are supported by infrastructure, so his background gives him a unique perspective on the economic development community.
