Tom Skancke is president and CEO of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance. He and his team are transforming the way economic development is being done in southern Nevada and throughout the west.
In his role, Skancke has refocused southern Nevada’s economic development initiatives and expanded the LVGEA’s regional and global outreach. Las Vegas is already a global tourism destination; Skancke and his team are helping to make Las Vegas a global business destination as well. Under his leadership, the LVGEA team is dedicated to growing the economy through connectivity, community development, and strong business recruitment, retention and outreach. LVGEA’s vision is to help southern Nevada residents thrive in a global economy by fostering a more prosperous, diverse and connected regional economy.
Prior to joining the LVGEA, Skancke was the CEO and president of The Skancke Company for 24 years. He has been the lead advisor on hundreds of transportation infrastructure projects throughout the west and nationally. He is widely recognized as one of the top transportation strategists in the United States, whose vision is transforming the way surface transportation is perceived and marketed throughout the country.
In 2005, United States Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) appointed Skancke to the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study commission, which made landmark recommendations to Congress on policy, funding and infrastructure that will serve the nation for the next 50 years.
His comments have appeared on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Fox News Sunday, and in several Washington, DC -based policy publications like Politico, The Hill and others.
Skancke is a highly sought public speaker relating to globalization, transportation infrastructure and global economic sustainability. He has presented to dozens of professional groups, chambers of commerce, state commissions, and conferences in the U.S. and around the World. He has also testified before several U.S. Senate and House Committees. In addition, Skancke has been involved with the deregulation of the telecommunications industry, worked on regional flood control projects throughout the west as well as K-12 and higher education funding. He has worked on several growth and development issues throughout the United States.
In 2013, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval appointed Skancke to the Nevada Department of Transportation Board of Directors. He serves on the board of directors for the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the executive committee. He also serves on the board of directors for the Western Regional Alliance.
